A friend of mine also receives 25 something accesspoints in the living room, and had packet loss to the gateway. I've let him purchase a Linksys wrt320n router which does b/g or a. He's switched to the A band and has been very happy ever since.

Apple uses the beacon packets from advertising access points to determine the "region". It's called wisdom.

Which my Apple thinks is the US. Because of a neighbors AP.
